Shopian rocks J&K Assembly, PDP alleges tampering of proof

Srinagar, August 12: The alleged rape and murder of two women in Shopian rocked the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly once again on Wednesday with the PDP seeking a report from the government on allegations of tampering of forensic evidence.

Reports suggest that forensic evidence in the investigation could have been fabricated. According to Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), the DNA profile of tissue cells present in the slides sent by the Jammu and Kashmir Police do not match with the samples from the victims’ blood and viscera.

The CFSL believes the slides supposed to have been prepared from vaginal swabs of the victims were drawn from other women.

The CFSL’s findings are likely to be placed by the investigation team before the Jammu and Kashmir High Court when it reviews the status of the case on Wednesday.
