Washington: A gunman went on a shooting rampage in southern California’s Bakersfield city, killing five people including his wife, before committing suicide on Wednesday.
Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood said that the gunman and his wife were involved in a confrontation with a man at a trucking business following which the suspect flashed out a gun and shot the man dead, and thereafter killed his wife, CNN reported.
Youngblood added that the police received information about the incident after 5 pm (local time). He further said that the shooter also killed another person, who arrived at the scene.
The gunman then entered into a residential area, where he killed two more persons before hijacking a car. The shooter then drove towards a nearby highway, where he was stopped by a deputy. As the deputy confronted him, the gunman shot himself dead.
The motive of the shooting is yet to be ascertained and investigators are currently quizzing 30 eyewitnesses.
