Shoot out at Jamia–Police silent spectator

NEW DELHI: Twitterati went mad at Delhi Police for being ‘silent spectator’ after the videos and photographs from the Jamia shooting incident went viral.

In the viral photographs and videos, Delhi police can be seen standing with folded hands by while a man brandishes a gun and opens fire at an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protestor outside the Jamia Millia Islamia University on Thursday afternoon.

Also, photographs shared on social media show police stood by and watched from behind the barricades as the bullet victim Shadab, a second-semester mass communication student, had to jump the barricade at the Holy Family Hospital because the police were not removing the barricades to let them in.

Delhi Police comes under the Union Home Ministry while the Delhi Administration is handled by the State of Delhi.

Opposition parties and several people on Twitter heavily criticised the police inaction.
