Shocking: US Traveller trapped, harrassed in OYO Rooms

Woman travellers in India are no longer safe with disgraceful incidents against foreign women visitors being reported from across the nation.

Experiencing similar traumatizing incidents, where she was sexually harassed multiple times, is an American travel vlogger Jordan Taylor who goes by the name ‘Travellight’ on social media.

Sharing her harrowing experiences of her recent visit to India, she recalls how she was held captive and sexually harassed at one of the famous OYO rooms in the national capital of India.

“Men just randomly passing by reached out and grabbed me… they were touching me, groping me. This one guy kinda leaned in […] and he just said to me, ‘I want to f**k you’, right into my face, even with Livio right there,” recalls Jordan.

With men lurking near her room in Delhi’s Paharganj area, she was terrified at the thought of opening the door when the staff knocked at her room asking her to open the door.

She later shared the video of her ordeal on her channel which was later shared on the Reddit India page.

When OYO company learnt about the incident they immediately responded to the thread on Twitter and said the company will look into the matter and ensure action.

“Guest safety is our top priority and will take the strictest of action against the partner hotel involved in this incident. Appreciate your concern,” OYO’s official Twitter handle replied.

Recalling the incidents, she alleged that hotel staff men would turn up at her room on the pretext of repairing the purposely switched off AC and WiFi of her room.

Jordan and her boyfriend Livio both checked into the OYO rooms and things started getting worse after Livio left just four days before Jordan was scheduled to leave India.

“From that very morning, they started acting complete[button color=”red” size=”medium” link=”#” icon=”” target=”false”]ly different to me. At one point, one of them even followed me up the stairs. They called the room, and I know for a fact that it was hotel employees because this phone is only for hotel use […] and they said into the phone, ‘Heyyyy babyyyy!’ I hung up. They called the room again and it was just silent and not saying anything. […] The next day, they call the room, I pick up and they were just making sexual noises… breathing. There is no way that this was normal breathing into the phone,” Jordan narrates.

“It was extremely uncomfortable at that point,” she says.

But fortunately one night she could escape the hotel in the middle of the night when she noticed it was silent outside her room with no one patrolling outside her room, rather the usual scene with men waiting, talking near her room.

Jordan also alleged that The Lalit in Connaught Place, had also passed on her information to random men who had been stalking her.

Well, Jordan was not the only one who had traumatizing experiences in India, other foreign travellers too shared similar stories of their unsafe experience while staying as tourists in India.

While one of the Japanese tourists told her information was shared to men by the hotel staff and she was later harassed through repeated phone calls on the landline in her room.

However, in an update from the vlogger also told that the Police is now carrying out investigations at the hotel where she stayed.

“Within 24 hours of releasing this (vlog), the hotel where this happened was shut down by the upper management in the chain. It came out that this has happened to other women who stayed there in the past as well! No more. Action has been taken!” she wrote.
