In an absolute shocker, India’s most wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim, the main accused in the 1993 blasts in Mumbai that killed 257 people and more than 700 injured wanted to surrender fifteen months after serial blast, former CBI DIG Neeraj Kumar has revealed.
According to reports, the gangster talked to the then CBI DIG Neeraj Kumar thrice about his willingness to surrender. However, the CBI had not accepted his offer for some reason.
Kumar was leading the CBI probe into the 13 blasts that rocked India’s financial capital on March 12, 1993.
“I spoke to a jittery Dawood three times in June 1994… He seemed to be toying with the idea of surrendering but had one worry — his rival gangs could finish him off if he returned to India. I told him his safety would be the responsibility of the CBI,” said Kumar.
He also said that Dawood was afraid that rival gangs would kill him and he wanted an assurance from the CBI about his safety.
Neeraj Kumar, who is working on a book, said he told about Dawood’s offer to his senior officers. But Kumar was told by seniors to put an end to the phone calls with Dawood.
Similar claims were made by jurist Ram Jethmalani who had said Dawood called him up to make an offer about surrender putting up a condition that he would not be tortured by Mumbai Police.
