‘Shoaib not staying at Mirza residence’

Hyderabad, April 12: The news about Sunni-Ulema-Board (SUB) issuing a `fatwa’ directing all the Muslims not to attend the upcoming high profile wedding of Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik, for violating the Islamic law, had sent jitters among the couple’s family members. However, the SUB later in the day clarified that the fatwa is not specific against the star couple.

Representatives of SUB told Express that earlier a fatwa was issued with respect to barring bride and bridegroom moving together and staying in the same house, before officially getting married, as it is against Islam religion. “According to Islam a couple is allowed to see each other, just on one occasion before they get married. So anyone who violates this practice, their actions are considered `haram’. As per the fatwa, all the other Muslims should not attend such marriages,’’ SUB General Secretary Moulana Hasibul Hasan said.

He also said that the specific fatwa can never be issued against any specific couple. “The fatwa was issued long time back. It is not specific to Sania-Shoaib case,’’ Hasan added Meanwhile, the family members of Sania Mirza came out with a clarification and said that Shoaib has not been staying at the Mirza’s house.

“We would like to clarify that the groom has not been staying in Mirza’s residence for the last few days. His mother and other family members are residing at Mirza’s residence as guests,’’ Sania Mirza’s family members said in a press release.

Meanwhile, Shoaib’s sister arrived from Germany and all his sisters had gone for shopping and sightseeing of Hyderabad. Sania today took some time out to attend the engagement of GVK’s grandson, Krishna Bhupal.
