Lahore, July 01: While Shoaib Akhtar’s future in the national team looks bleak with the emergence of bowlers like Umar Gul and Mohammad Aamer, former Test fast bowler Sarfraz Nawaz believes the pacer still has a chance but only if he gets himslef in shape on time.
”The problem with Shoaib is his fitness and if he gets in good shape he would make it to the Pakistan squad again,” Sarfraz told PPI. Shoaib was overlooked for the World T20 Championship because of a skin infection and now the paceman has been ignored for the Sri Lankan series because of his fitness. Shoaib’s absence hasn’t hurt Pakistan much in the recent past as the other pacers like Gul and Aamer delivered for the team during the recently-concluded World T20 championship.
However, Sarfraz said more bowlers should be made available for the team in order to create competition among them.
He also came down heavily on the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not deciding the future of pacer Mohammad Asif. ”They should take the decision about Mohammad Asif. He has been stranded,” Sarfraz added.
