Shoaib Malik shines in a nail-biting match as Pakistan beat Afghanistan in Asia Cup

Shoaib Malik unbeaten 51 from 43 balls under pressure takes Pakistan to victory over Afghanistan, as Pakistan survived a scare from Afghanistan while chasing 258. Wickets kept falling for Pakistan with star Afghan spinner Rashid Khan yet again proving his utility with a three-wicket haul but Malik stood on the crease till the end.

Pakistan required 10 runs from the last over and Malik hit a six and four to the Afghanistani pacer, Aftab Alam. Before him, Imam-ul-Haq (80) and Babar Azam (60) hit half-centuries in a 154-run stand but the slow run rate made it difficult for Pakistan in the end.

Pakistan needed exact 100 runs from 15 overs. Pakistan lost Haris Sohail (13), Sarfraz Ahmad (8), Asif Ali (7) and Mohammad Nawaz (10) with Afghan bowlers fighting hard.

Till 25 over Pakistan had managed to put on board just 103 for one with the required run rate going above six per over. The two batsmen out on 154 runs for the second wicket before the bespectacled Imam was run out in the 34th over.

But eventually, it was senior player Shoaib Malik who took Pakistan to the victory in a nail-biting match.
