Shiv Sena threatens to disrupt Asaduddin Owaisi visit to Pune

The Shiv Sena has objected to the scheduled visit of Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi to Pune, saying it may create law and order problems if he makes controversial statements.

Action Committee, Maharashtra and Mulnivasi Muslim Manch — the Pune-based organisations — have invited Mr Owaisi as the chief guest for the February 4 event where discussion will be held on the need of reservation for Muslims. Other invitees include leaders from the Aam Aadmi Party.

The Sena have also threatened to disrupt the event. The party has also given a representation to Pune police commissioner stating that Owaisi’s speech may disrupt communal harmony and sought action against the meeting. The Pune police has said it is looking into the issue.

Shiv Sena city unit delegation headed by its new chief Vinayak Nimhan, who left the Congress and joined Shiv Sena only last week, met Pune commissioner Satish Mathur and handed over a memorandum seeking action against the event.
