Shiv Sena targets Mehbooba, links NIT unrest to ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ row

Mumbai : Training its guns at Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, the Shiv Sena on Wednesday said the recent unrest at Srinagar’s National Institute of Technology campus is taking place as the former did not chant slogan of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ during her oath-taking ceremony on April 4.

“If Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti would have raised the slogan of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ before or after taking the oath, it would have sent a good message across the state. But unfortunately, nothing of that sort happened,” Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut told ANI.

“This is the result of ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’. There is a force in Kashmir which does not want to hear slogans like ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ and ‘Hindusthan Jindabaad’. A conflict is going on with them,” he added.

A day after tension erupt at the NIT Srinagar, a two-member team of the Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Ministry arrived in Srinagar on Wednesday to assess the situation in the campus.

Unrest was witnessed at the campus with outstation students expressing a sense of insecurity and attempting to leave the campus, leading to a confrontation with police which resorted to baton-charge in which some were injured.

With the situation being tense, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF0 was deployed last night at the campus.

Tension simmered in the NIT campus last week after India lost the World T20 semi-final to the West Indies.

Some engineering students from outside the state claimed Kashmiri students had chanted anti-India slogans and burst firecrackers after India’s defeat. (ANI)
