Mumbai : The Shiv Sena on Monday dubbed stand-up comic Tanmay Bhat’s video on Facebook titled ‘Sachin vs Lata Civil War’ as a ‘desperate publicity stunt’ and said it is a clear violation of freedom of speech.
Shiv Sena spokesperson Neelam Ghore said that Tanmay wouldn’t have dared to feature the twp legends in such a derogatory video had they been sturdy politicians.
“Sachin Tendulkar and Lata ji both are eminent personalities worldwide and have gathered a lot of respect through their work. Making fun of these Bharat Ratna awardees at this level is highly objectionable,” Ghore told ANI.
“The use of their morphed images and showing them distortedly clarifies Tanmay’s intentions of insulting them. The extensive use of obscene language is also disgusting and extremely disrespectful,” she added.
Ghore has sent a mail to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis urging him to ensure that necessary action against the AIB comedian is taken at the earliest.
In addition to this, she has also sent the same memorandum to the Mumbai Police.
The AIB comedian earlier drew flak from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders, who demanded immediate action against him.
Several Bollywood celebrities, including actors Anupam Kher and Riteish Deshmukh, criticised the comedian for “insulting” the diva of Indian film music and the master blaster.
“I am 9 times winner of #BestComicActor. Have a great sense of humor. But This’s NOT humor. #Disgusting&Disrespectful,” Kher tweeted.
“Am absolutely shocked. Disrespect is not cool and neither is it funny,” Riteish, who will be seen in the upcoming romantic comedy film ‘Housefull 3’, wrote on Twitter. (ANI)
