Mumbai: Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut called Kanhaiya Kumar “a bottle of poison” and said the latter must not reach the parliament. In order to prevent Kumar’s entry in the parliament, Shiv Sena MP calls for ‘EVM tampering’.
As reported by News 18, Raut, who is the editor of Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, in his column ‘Rok Thok’ in the Marathi daily, said on Sunday that Kumar should be defeated in the elections even if it means the BJP has to “tamper with EVMs”.
Taking cognizance of the remark, the district election officer of Mumbai has issued a notice to Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut for alleged violation of the model code of conduct over his comments against Kanhaiya Kumar. The Rajya Sabha MP has been asked to respond to the notice by Wednesday. On the basis of which further action in the matter will be decided by the Election Commission.
Former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University’s student union Kanhaiya Kumar is contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha poll from Begusarai in Bihar as CPI candidate.
Raut has confirmed the receipt of notice and said he will respond to the notice to clarify his stand.
