Shiney Ahuja withdraws bail plea

Mumbai, August 29: Actor Shiney Ahuja, facing charges of raping his domestic help, today withdrew his bail petition filed in a sessions court since the case has been transferred to a fast track court. He will now have to file a fresh petition in the fast track court to seek bail, Ahuja’s lawyer Srikant Shivade told PTI.

Principal judge MT Joshi yesterday announced the transfer of the case to a fast track court in Sewri. Chief minister Ashok Chavan had assured that the trial would be put on the fast track soon after the arrest of the actor.

Ahuja’s earlier bail plea had been rejected on July 8 by a sessions court, which held that prima facie, a case was made out against him.

Ahuja, 36, had sought bail on the ground that his custody was not required by the police at this stage, as investigations were over and the charge sheet had been filed.

The actor, currently lodged in Arthur Road Jail, was arrested on June 15 for allegedly raping his maidservant at his residence in Oshiwara, Mumbai.

Shivade had earlier claimed that the entire case against the actor had been “concocted” and alleged that a conspiracy had been hatched to wrongly implicate Ahuja in the crime.
