Shilpa kiss case: SC transfer to Mumbai

Mumbai, November 22: In a major relief to Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty, the Supreme Court on Monday transferred a case against her arising out of a kissing controversy involving Hollywood star Richard Gere to a court in Mumbai, her hometown.

The kissing incident between Shilpa and AIDS awareness activist Gere in full public view some four years ago had created a furore.

Taking note of the practical problem being faced by Shilpa, the apex court directed that all the cases relating to the offence of kissing in public place pending against her transferred to a Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court in Mumbai.

In April last, a court in Bihar’s Siwan had issued summons to Shilpa and Gere among others on a law suit that said the act of Shilpa was indecent and a crime under Sections 294 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code
