Shehla murder: another BJP MP under the scanner

Bhopal, September 05: Almost nineteen days after RTI activist Shehla Masood was gunned down by unidentified assailants outside her home, there seems to be no breakthrough in the murder case.

After Tarun Vijay, another BJP MP whose name has cropped up during investigations is Anil Madhav Dave. Shehla had filed some RTI applications against a trust run by Dave.

Dave finally broke his silence, saying, “since it it a procedure, everyone need not behave like the CBI… The case is being now investigated by the agency.”

Meanwhile, the case has finally been handed over to the Central Bureau of investigation (CBI). The Bhopal unit of the agency has taken into possession all documents related with the case and a special team has been formed to probe the murder of the RTI activist. Information is being sought afresh from all those close to Shehla.

Shehla’s family is happy that the CBI has finally taken over the case as they feel that their daughter’s death will finally get justice.

“We are happy that the CBI has finally taken over the case and we hope there will be a fair trial and speedy investigation,” said Shehla’s father, Sultan Masood.

The CBI could soon question those who are under the scanner, especially on the basis of the leads provided by Shehla’s telephone records.

Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi said that the law will take it’s own course, once the CBI is done with it’s investigation.

“If and when the CBI interrogates and chargesheets them, the law takes its own course,” said Joshi.

Commerce and Industry Minister of State Jyotiraditya Scindia said that he didn’t want the case to become politicised.

Scindia said, “I don’t want the case to be politicised. This was a brutal murder and Shehla’s family deserves justice.”

Earlier the Bhopal police could not make much progress despite claiming to have identified some eyewitnesses to the circumstances that led to the murder. Even for the CBI to un-ravel the mystery could be a tough case to crack.
