Mumbai: A team from the British Deputy High Commission in Mumbai met Indrani Mukerjea, the prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, while she is in judicial custody, official sources said here on Monday.
The team called on Indrani — who is a British national since the past few years — to enquire whether she required any help and the facilities she has been given in prison, as part of the mission’s normal procedures for British citizens living or working abroad.
Earlier, the deputy high commission team was denied access and asked to get clearance from the union home ministry.
Officials from the British Deputy High Commission in Mumbai and the British High Commission in New Delhi were not available for comment.
Indrani, the wife of former media tycoon Peter Mukerjea, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai have been charged with the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora in April 2012.
The trio — accused of killing Sheena and then dumping her partially burnt body in the forests near Gagode in Raigad district of Maharashtra — is currently in judicial custody till September 21.
While police were yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder, investigators are probing the wealth and property angle as one of the possible causes.
