Sheena case: Indrani’s lawyer seeks court nod to meet her

Mumbai: Indrani Mukerjea’s lawyer today moved a local court seeking permission to meet her in J J hospital, where she is undergoing treatment for alleged drug overdose, after she wasn’t allowed to see her.

The court sought a report on health condition of Indrani, the prime accused in the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora (24) in 2012.

Her lawyer Gunjan Mangala moved an application before the court, saying she was not allowed to meet her client when she went to the hospital earlier in the day.

Acting on the plea, Magistrate R V Adone sought a report from the state-run medical facility in Byculla on health condition of Indrani and adjourned the hearing till next week.

During the hearing, the CBI told the court they have just taken over the case from Mumbai Police. The central agency said their investigation is at an initial stage and the gravity of the offence is very serious.

Earlier in the day, Mangala was not allowed to meet Indrani. But the lawyer met J J Hospital Dean T P Lahane, who apprised her about the condition of the 43-year-old.

According to Lahane, Indrani is in a semi-conscious state and will be under treatment and observation for three more days.

Indrani, who is in jail under judicial custody, was yesterday rushed to the Critical Care Unit of JJ hospital in an unconscious state and it was claimed that she had an overdose of an anti-epileptic pill.

Besides the former media executive, the other accused in the case are her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and ex-driver Shyamvar Rai.

Meanwhile, the court also allowed CBI’s application to call all records from Bandra Magistrate Court, which was earlier handling the matter.
