Shed ambivalence on Telangana demand: JAC to AP parties

Hyderabad, December 31: The Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Friday said the political parties from Andhra Pradesh should not be ambivalent on their stand on the separate Telangana demand at the meeting convened by the Centre on January 6.

“TRS, BJP, CPI and CPI(M) are clear on their stand. Congress and TDP should also be clear. They sent two representatives to an all-party meeting convened earlier this year by the Centre and voiced two opinions. That should not happen again. Whatever is their stance, it should be clear,” JAC chairman M Kodandaram told reporters here.

The JAC, comprising TRS, BJP and a number of people’s organisations, would announce its plan of action after the January 6 meeting. The meet was convened by the Centre to discuss the Srikrishna Committee report and the way forward on the separate statehood demand.

The JAC chairman appealed to people to undertake various forms of protest till January 5 to express their demand for formation of Telangana state.

People should send SMSes and representations to their MLAs to get the parties to make their stand clear on the Telangana issue, Kodandaram said.

Asserting that the Srikrishna Committee, which submitted its report to the Centre yesterday, would not be able to deliver Telangana, he appealed to statehood supporters to observe restraint.

“People should not be carried away by emotions. They should not resort to any unwanted things.”

His appeal came in the wake of fears that untoward incidents may take place after the Srikrishna report was made public.
