Hyderabad: As many as 2785 cases of eve-teasing, of which 421 of the accused were minors, have been registered in the city between 2014 and 2021 by the She Teams under the Rachakonda police commissionerate.
The teams were also responsible for rescuing 119 girls from child marriages from the areas of Bhongir, Choutuppal, and Ibrahimpatnam.
A report submitted by the SHE teams at the Rachakonda Commissionerate detailed the crimes against women and the subsequent resolution of them for the year 2014-2021.
Aside from conducting awareness programs, the teams also identified skilled women from colleges and implemented the “She for Her” concept in which women were trained by policewomen in women’s safety. The teams also conducted decoy operations at hotspots like bus stops and traffic junctions to identify eve-teasers and ensured that psychologists from Bhumika Women’s Collective counselled them against their behaviour.
With regards to rural women, the Team is said to have initiated a “Self-help group” with an aim to spread awareness about unsocial activities. The initiative “Sanghamitra” created efficient volunteers to provide support to victims of different sorts of abuse.
The SHE Teams were responsible for rescuing 36 minor girls from human trafficking as well as arresting nine qualified doctors from Uppal, Medipally, Choutuppal, Ibrahimpatnam, and Chaitanyapuri in pre natal gender screening cases.
The teams also conducted decoy operations at Metro Trains. All in all, 3119 accused were arrested and either granted counseling or arrested based on the severity of the crime.
