Hyderabad: She Team of Rachakonda Police saved 69 minor girls from performing child marriage.
It may be mentioned that Rachakonda police commissionerate is second to Delhi Police in saving the minor girls from child marriage.
It may be recalled that as per the child marriage protection Act of 2006, the persons involved in child marriages are liable to receive two years imprisonment and a fine of Rs, 2 Lakh.
As per this law, the age of the girl should be 18 years whereas the boy to be married should be 21 years.
An awareness program is being organized under the supervision of Rachakonda DCP, Miss saleema. She appealed to the people to bring to the notice of police such cases where minors are being forced for marriages.
It may be mentioned that on getting information, She Team was successful in stopping child marriage on 30th November at Malkajgiri.
The Marriage was fixed at 21st December. A 25-year-old youth was going to marry a 17-year-old girl.
On a tip given by some will-wishers, the members of SHE Team arranged the counseling of the parents of both sides and explained to them the disadvantages of child marriages, Mr. Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat appealed to the public not to get involved into such criminal activities.
