Shashi Tharoor slammed over visa row

New Delhi, December 28: Union Minister for External Affairs SM Krishna today slammed his deputy Shashi Tharoor for his new visa rules remark on Twitter.

Krishna said that Tharoor shouldn’t discuss policy matter in public domain. He said that his ministry is going along with Ministry of Home Affairs on new visa rules.

Krishna justified stringent visa rule proposed by Home Ministry after David C Headley-Tahawwur Rana episode.

In his blog on Twitter, Tharoor expressed concern on new visa rule. He questioned the tighter norms for visa saying the 26/11 killers had no visa. He further wrote, ” it seems that new visa rules will allow terrorists to make it less welcoming.”

“Is all that worth it just in hope of making it difficult for a future Headley to recce? Are we going to allow terrorists to make us less welcoming?” Tharoor wrote. “Making it more difficult to visit India, return here frequently or stay long hurts large numbers of innocents, costs us millions of dollar and alienates.” He noted that “the more restrictive we become, the tougher it will be for Indians to travel freely”.
