Sharjah, May 27: The emirate’s police on Wednesday freed a Pakistani who was held captive allegedly by nine compatriots for a ransom of Dh10,000.
A senior officer at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) said they received a complaint that a Pakistani expatriate, Mohammad A., was kidnapped. Within three hours, the police were able to track down the apartment in Al Shuwaiheen area where he was held captive. The police raided the apartment and found the victim tied with a rope in a room. The nine suspects were arrested and Mohammad freed.
The victim told the police that he was severely beaten up and threatened with life. “The suspects confessed that they kidnapped the victim because he owed them money, but the victim denied the allegation, saying he had never seen them before,” said the officer.
During further interrogation, the suspects confessed that they carried out the kidnapping together and that they wanted to divide the ransom money among them. The police also found out that four of the suspects were infiltrators. The case has been referred to the Public Prosecution
