Sharjah, February 13: The 2009 Sharjah Prize for Arab Culture has been awarded to the Iraqi poet and calligrapher Ghani Alani and the Polish publisher and academic Anna Parzymies.
The Prize was presented by Abdullah Mohammed Al Owais, Director-General of Department of Culture and Information in Sharjah, representing His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, UAE Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, Abdullah Musabbeh Al Nuaimi, Permanent Representative of the State to UNESCO and UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova.
The awardees were recommended by an international jury that went through 28 nominations from 21 member states.
