Sharif calls for emergency meeting following deadly quake

Karachi, Oct 27 : Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has called for an emergency meeting a day after a deadly 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.

According to the Dawn, National Disaster Management Chairman Major General Asghar Nawaz will brief Sharif about rescue and relief efforts.

The meeting will be attended by Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lieutenant General Asim Bajwa, Director-General Military Operations Major General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, Secretary Climate Change Arif Ahmed Khan and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, among others.

The death toll from the earthquake has crossed 228.

The toll is expected to rise as search teams reach remote areas that have been cut off due to landslides and destruction caused by the earthquake. (ANI)
