Share information about more attacks on India: Pak to US

Islamabad, January 21: Pakistan on Wednesday asked the US to share any information it has regarding LeT and al Qaeda planning more terror attacks in India, instead of making public statements.

Reacting to US Defence Secretary Robert Gates saying that India’s patience would be “limited” if it faces a Mumbai-type attack again from ‘terror havens’ from Pak-Afghan border areas, Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Basit said, “Pakistan is committed not to allow its soil for any terrorist action any where in the world.”

“If the US has any information to this effect, that needs to be shared with Pakistan rather than making public statements.”

Basit also said that “if India has any information about any possible attacks that particular information should be shared with Pakistan.”

Gates who is on a visit to India had warned that Lashkar-e-Toiba was working in league with al Qaeda to destabilise the region and provoke an Indo-Pak military confrontation.

Gates had discussed the serious threat posed by terrorism to the region with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Defence Minister A K Antony.

He had emphasised the need for “high level of cooperation” from all countries to defeat the “syndicate” of terror, including the LeT, the Taliban and the Tehreek-e-Taliban under the command of al Qaeda.
