Sharad Yadav urges govt. to provide immediate relief to farmers

Janata Dal (United) leader Sharad Yadav on Sunday alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the Centre is not concerned about farmers, urging the latter to provide immediate relief to those affected by unseasonal rains.

“The condition of the farmers in the country is very bad. Farmers have lost a lot due to unseasonal rains and hailstorms. Farmers are committing suicides. The government is not doing anything for them. The need of the hour is that government should provide relief to the affected farmers immediately,” Yadav told mediapersons.

“Farmers have taken loans but are unable to repay the loans because of crop loss. The government should do something about it, but this government is not concerned about farmers,” he added.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi earlier in the day came down heavily on the government, saying relief announced by it for farmers affected by hailstorm and untimely rain is worthless.

Last month’s unseasonal rains and hailstorms have resulted in crop damage across several states in the country. (ANI)
