Scores of shanty dwellers of Kaushambi today staged a sit-in protest at the collectorate here.
Protesters led by district president of Dalit Sena Suraj Sanyasi handed over a memorandum to SDM. They said some persons have been threatening them to vacate their shanties.
Sanyasi said more than hundred families are living in their huts since last 15 years and have their bank accounts and Aadhar cards on the addresses of these shanties. They have been threatened frequently by anti-social elements to vacate the land.
“During elections, BSP and SP had assured the shanty dwellers that they will be rehabilitated. After the government was formed, both the parties never took care about alternative rehabilitation arrangements and allotment of flats or land either in Kanshi Ram Yojna or at any other suitable place on easy installments,” he alleged.
In case shanties are uprooted without any alternative arrangements, the protesters said they will stage a sit-in protest at the collectorate.
They also plan to send a memorandum to Uttar Pradesh governor.
