Former Minister P Shankar Rao today exuded confidence that the Congress will retain power in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states after general elections.
Addressing a media conference at Congress Legislature Party office here, Shankar Rao urged the Congress high command to give 40 MLA seats and five MP seats to women and youth in the Telangana State in the run-up to the elections. Stating that Telangana region has 119 MLA seats and 17 MP seats, Shankar Rao urged the Congress high command to give priority to women and youth in the allocation of party tickets this time. He said he will abide by the party high command on contesting either for MP or MLA seat from anywhere.
Shankar Rao urged the Congress to deny tickets to those who defied and belittled the party and with criminal background. He also urged the party to give tickets to the leaders loyal and capable of winning in the elections. “I have submitted a letter to the AICC Chief in this regard”, he added. Those who defied the party line and resorted to indiscipline should not be encouraged in the elections, he said.
Welcoming the high command’s decision to deny tickets to those who crossed the “Lakshman Rekha” and belittled the party in many aspects, Shankar Rao said this was high time that the Congress should campaign at all levels and ensure that the developmental programs and welfare schemes being implemented be taken up to the doorsteps of the people.
