Shankar, Ponguleti pat police for restoring peace in city

Congress senior leaders Dr P Shanker Rao and AICC secretary and MLC Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy have said that communal riots in the Old City were unfortunate.

Speaking to the media at the CLP office here on Monday, Shanker Rao said that communal disturbances in the Old City were condemnable. He called on the people to cooperate with the State government in controlling the situation. Praising the Police Department for initiating timely action to bring the situation under control, Shanker Rao said that the Police succeeded in restoring peace and earned confidence of the people.

Dr Rao expressed surprise over communal flare-up erupting first in Madannapet area every time in the City and said that the situation came under control within 24-hours as the government responded in a responsible way. He called upon the people of all religions to respect each other and see that communal riots do not erupt in future.

Ponguleti said that the political parties should not to see communal disturbances in political angle. He urged the government to initiate stern action against the persons responsible for the disturbances in those areas.

Taking serious exception to YSRC Chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy criticizing the State government during his Sangareddy visit on Monday where communal riots flared up recently, Ponguleti advised Jagan not to make provocative speeches. Finding fault with CPI State secretary Dr K Narayana for criticizing Congress leaders with regard to Telangana issue, Ponguleti warned Narayana that the Congress cadre will answer him in a democratic manner.

Asked whether late YSR was involved in corrupt practices or not, Ponguleti said that CBI inquiry would reveal it. (NSS)
