Shani Temple row: Women activists pin hope on CM Fadnavis

Ahmadnagar :Women activists who attended a meeting called by the District Collector to end the deadlock over allowing women to enter Shani Shingnapur temple in Maharashtra on Saturday pinned their hopes on Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s order.

Interacting with mediapersons, Bhumata Brigade chief Trupti Desai said it was a positive interaction.

“Whatever the Chief Minister decides, we will be abiding by that. Other parties involved in the matter also agreed to this. We hope soon women will be allowed inside the temple,” she added.

Members of the temple management were also present at the meeting.

Desai, who is spearheading the agitation, has said that she will apprise the Chief Minister of the outcome of the meeting.

The agitators have been demanding the end to a centuries old ban on female devotees’ entry into the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

Women members and supporters of the Bhumata Brigade arrived from Pune on January 29 in six buses with an aim to enter the temple’s sanctorum, where the idol of Lord Shani is placed on an open-air platform. (ANI)
