New Delhi: Dr Shama Parveen, Assistant Professor at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences, has been presented prestigious Women Science Award 2018. Chief Guest of the function Vice President of India Sri M Venkaiah Naidu gave away the award which carries 1 lakh rupees and a citation.
Dr Parveen has done research in the area of Molecular Biology of human viruses and focuses on dengue, chikungunya, zika and respiratory viruses. Her research articles have been published in journals of international repute are being well cited.
The prestigious “Sayeeda Begum Women Scientist Prize 2018” is instituted by Jamia Hamdard University, which is given annually in the memory of Late Sayeeda Begum, wife of Late Hakeem Abdul Hameed, founder of Jamia Hamdard.
The award aims at recognising the academic excellence of women scientists working at any minority institution of the country in basic and applied research in the areas of biosciences, biotechnology, biomedical, pharmaceutical and environmental sciences. Scientific contributions of the candidate during the last 5 years are evaluated for the award.
