Mumbai, June 24: Swades might have been one of his critically most appreciated roles but Shahrukh Khan loves commercial success more than anything.
This is perhaps the only explanation as to why Shahrukh turned down Ashutosh Gowariker’s offer to star in his next movie. Ashutosh approached Shahrukh for a period film which will have Rani Mukherjee as the female lead.

Shahrukh Khan had delivered a mind boggling performance in Swades but somehow it could not connect with the audience. Critics feel it is the most underrated movies in Shahrukh’s career. Ashutosh has delivered two of the biggest Bollywood hits in the last decade with Aamir Khan starer Laagan and Jodhaa Akbar starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Bachchan.
The movie will be a welcome change for Rani Mukherjee as she will finally not have the Yash Raj tag attached to her. Rani whose career is on a negative dive could not have asked for a bigger name than the Laagan director. It will be interesting to see whom Ashutosh approaches next for the movie as it is not easy to replace a certain Shahrukh Khan in Bollywood.
