Shah vows poor-friendly government like that of MGR

Thoothukudi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah on Tuesday said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will form at the Centre a poor-friendly government like the ones formed by former AIADMK Chief Ministers M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) and J. Jayalalithaa in Tamil Nadu.

Campaigning for BJP Lok Sabha candidate Tamilisai Soundararajan, Shah told a rally here, “In 2014, the BJP did not have a big alliance in Tamil Nadu. But we won and gave ministerial berths to two MPs from Tamil Nadu — Pon Radhakrishnan and Nirmala Sitharaman, daughter of the soil.”

Stressing that the BJP had a big electoral alliance this time with parties like the AIADMK, the PMK and the DMDK, Shah said a survey had predicted the NDA winning over 30 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu.

From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, people wanted Narendra Modi to become the Prime Minister again, he said and added, “The NDA will not only win the Lok Sabha elections but also the Assembly polls”.

Taking a dig at the DMK-Congress alliance, the BJP leader said it had people like Karti Chidambaram, Kanimozhi and A. Raja against whom there were corruption charges.

According to Shah, the 13th Finance Commission had given the state just Rs 94,000 crore, but the 14th Finance Commission under the Modi government allocated Rs 5.45 lakh crore.

The BJP chief said the new government headed by Modi would provide more funds to Tamil Nadu to implement more developmental projects.

Shah also brought up the issue of Kashmir and said it was a part of India and the Modi government would not give it away to anyone.

Pointing out to the Air Forces strikes in Balakot, he said while the NDA government destroyed terror camps in Pakistan, the Congress wanted talks with that country. The BJP chief received a thunderous response when he asked “Should we not seek revenge against Pakistan that carries out terror attacks in India”.
