Former minister and Congress Coordination Committee member Mohammad Ali Shabbir on Thursday came down heavily on Telangana Rashtra Samithi for lodging a complaint with the Election Commission over the release of funds for the drinking water facility for 214 villages in Kamareddy mandal.
Talking to media persons at Assembly media point, Shabbir Ali said that the government has not violated the election code and the proposal of providing water to 214 villages in Kamareddy constituency from Sriramsagar irrigation project was taken in last January before the release of election notification for by-elections on February 14.
Stating that the model code of conduct would not apply for the schemes, he advised TRS to withdraw its petition immediately. He termed TRS allegation that the government released funds for drinking water project with an eye on elections and to lure the voters as ‘baseless’. He said that the Chief Minister has released Rs 14 crore for the proposal and Rs 70 crore was yet to be released for the completion of pending works. He asked as to why the TRS was raising objection on the development projects in the Telangana region.
Although more than 700 students died for the cause of Telangana statehood, he asked KCR to explain what steps he had taken for the welfare of their family members. He accused KCR of misusing the Telangana agitation for his selfish gains and minting money disrespecting the sentiments of people.
Shabbir demanded that the State Government order probe into the misuse of land given for his party office at nominal rates. Stating that 4,840 sqft land was given for Rs 50,000 for TRS party office, the former minister said KCR has commercialized the office by launching a TV channel. “The government should order a probe into issue and recover the land,” he stated.
Responding to a question on Telangana, he said that the issue got delayed due to lack of unanimity among various stake holders. However, he hoped that the government would take an appropriate decision on the issue at an appropriate time. (INN)
