Shabbir slams CM for diverting farmers’ Central subsidy funds

Congress MLC Mohd Ali Shabbir today charged the KCR government with totally neglecting the farmers in the State. Accusing the State government of diverting Rs 750 crore  input subsidy of farmers granted by the Centre, Shabbir Ali demanded that   government clear the farmers’ pending crop insurance dues, farmers loan waiver dues, input subsidy dues  besides crop losses dues to unseasonal rains in September  last.

Welcoming Supreme Court direction to formulate a comprehensive national policy on farmers and directed the Center and State to submit reports within 30 days,   Shabbir Ali said the SC decision was a slap on the face of the KCR government. While some 3,000 farmers committed suicide since 2014 in Telangana, the KCR government was only promoting industry and not agriculture, which is the livelihood base for 70 percent of the State population. He said  the KCR government is responsible of farmers suicides as the  government failed to deposit  25% of the crop insurance  amount in farmers’  bank accounts.

Shabbir said the Chief Minister was not honoring his own statements he had made in the Assembly on clearing farmers loans, input subsidies and also the crop insurance dues  till now. Deputy Leader in the Council and MLC Pongulati Sudhakar Reddy was also present. (NSS)
