Shabbir resents arrest of Varavara Rao

Hyderabad: Leader of the Opposition in the Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir today condemned the arrest of revolutionary writer Varavara Rao. The allegation of the police that Varavara Rao hatched a conspiracy to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not believable, he said.

Shabbir said Varavara Rao was a great humanist and a democratic voice. Earlier, the police named terrorists who hatched a conspiracy to kill Prime Minister, but now the police were chanting the name of Maoists, he pointed out. He asked the Centre to order a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations against Varavara Rao.

Speaking on internal differences in the Congress party, Shabbir asked Aleti Maheshwar Reddy and Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, who tendered resignations to their posts to the Congress Bus Yatra Committee, to rethink on their decisions.
