Leader of Opposition in Telangana State Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir’s 59th birthday was celebrated across Telangana, especially in Hyderabad and Kamareddy, with fanfare on Monday.
Leader of Opposition K Jana Reddy, TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, MLAs and MLCs including Dr. J. Geetha Reddy, Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, Akula Lalitha and other senior leaders of Telangana Congress wished Shabbir Ali on his birthday over phone. Hundreds of Congress workers and leaders and other people from various walks of life called on Shabbir Ali at his residence in Jubilee Hills to convey their greetings on his birthday.
Accompanied with Congress leaders from Old City, Shabbir Ali distributed fruits among the patients at Maternity Hospital at Petla Burj.
Speaking to media persons later, Shabbir Ali thanked Congress workers for their love and wishes which they have conveyed on his birthday. He said that the Congress party has always used all occasions to help the poor and needy and therefore, his fans and followers organised blood donation camps, fruit and food distribution programmes on his birthday. He said he was happy that his birthday celebrations were organized in the same hospital building whose foundation stone was laid by him and he had inaugurated the same as the then Hyderabad incharge minister. He also expressed concern over lack of proper facilities in the maternity hospital.
“Congress president Sonia Gandhi, the then Chief Minister Dr. Y.S. Rajasehkara Reddy and myself were responsible for giving 4% reservation to Muslims in jobs and education. Our initiative so far helped more than 10 lakh poor Muslims. We wanted to see Muslim youth become qualified professionals. For the same reasons I took a personal decision to forgive the youth who attacked me,” he said.
Shabbir Ali’s fans have erected banners, hoarding and huge cut-outs at prime locations, especially in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, wishing the Congress leader on his birthday.
Former TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah also celebrated his birthday on Monday although he kept the occasion a low key affair.(INN)
