Shabbir Ali slams ex-Mayor for “disowning” daughter for GHMC polls

Leader of Opposition in Telangana Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir has accused former Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain for “disowning” one of his daughter only to contest GHMC elections on MIM ticket from Mehdipatnam ward.

Shabbir Ali, along with Congress candidate Mohammed Khaliq @ Irfan, undertook door-to-door campaign and addressed street corner meetings in several localities of Mehdipatnam ward on Saturday. Addressing a meeting at Zeba Bagh, Shabbir Ali said it was highly regrettable that Majid Hussain disowned one of his daughters only to contest the elections. He said disowning own child was not only against the Constitution, but also against the Islam. He said Islam and Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) has strictly warned Muslims against disowning own children. “He had served as GHMC Mayor for almost three years. He should have set a precedent by refusing to contest the election for having three children. However, he tried to cheat everyone by hiding one of his daughters. The birth certificates clearly state that Majid Hussain and Syeda Juveria Azamath are the parents of three children. If they are not the parents, then who are parents of third girl named Ayesha Haala?” he asked.

The Congress leader also listed out the failures of MIM in ensuring upliftment of Muslims. He said that the MIM leaders have turned rich, but their voters remained poor and downtrodden. He said none of the areas represented by the MIM Corporators had proper basic amenities. “They visit these areas once in five years and seek your vote in the name of Islam. You must reject everyone who seek vote in the name of religion. Congress binds people of all religions, castes and communities. We seek votes only in the name of development and performance,” he said.

Shabbir Ali also claimed that the previous Congress regime had developed Hyderabad by spending over Rs. 1 lakh crore. But the pace of development was stopped after TRS came to power. He also took a dig at TRS Manifesto wherein minorities were promised 1,000 auto-rickshaws. “Congress party provided 4% reservation and turned poor Muslim youth into engineers, doctors and qualified professionals. But TRS Government wants the Muslims to become auto-drivers,” he said adding that the community would agree for nothing less than 12% Muslim reservation which was promised by Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao in 2014 election manifesto.

Congress senior leaders Vinod, Kondal, Md Afzaluddin, Murali, Jabir Patel, Ateeq Siddiqui and others were also present. They were given a warm reception by the local residents and many of them joined the padayatra which lasted for over four hours.

The Congress leaders also called on Syed Viqaruddin, the Editor-in-Chief of Rahnuma-e-Deccan, at his residence and sought his blessings for the victory of candidate Mohammed Khaliq @ Irfan. (INN)
