Shaadi Mubarak Scheme: Mee Seva owner held for fraud

Hyderabad: A Mee Seva Operator Mohd Zahed Ali, Proprietor of “I Can Help Associates” near Owaisi Vegetable Market, Kishanbagh was arrested for cheating a beneficiary of “Shaadi Mubaarak Scheme” under which each unmarried girl belonging to the Minorities community gets financial assistance of Rs 51,000 from the Telangana government at the time of marriage.
Following a complaint from one Fouziya Begum, of Asad Baba Nagar, Bahadurpura, on March 22, the South Zone police and Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths launched investigation and found that fraud was committed by Mee-Seva operator Mohd Zahed Ali, who has misappropriated Rs 31,000 out of Rs 51,000 sanctioned to Summaiyya Begum of Kishanbagh under the Shaadi Mubhaarak Scheme of Telangana State Govt.
According to V Satyanarayana, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Zone, complainant Fouziya Begum, 40, of Asad Baba Nagar, Bahadurpura visited Mee-seva situated beside Summaiya Masjid in February 2015 and enquired for Wazifa (Widow Pension). She also came tol know about the Shaadi Mubharak Scheme for unmarried girls. When she asked about process of Shaadi Mubharak scheme for her daughter Summaiya Begum, the accused Mohd Zahed Ali, Proprietor of Mee-seva, asked her to submit two photos of her daughter, Aadhar Card, Electricity bill, Wedding Card and a Marriage photo.
Accordingly, she submitted all the required documents to Mohd Zahed Ali along with Rs 2,000 processing fee on February 11, 2015. Subsequently she visited the Mee-seva thrice to know about the status of her file. After waiting for a few months, she performed her daughter’s marriage with Sheik Mujeeb on May 17, 2015 at Sikander Function Hall at Aurangabad.
One day, the accused Mohd Zahed informed her through his cell phone that the girl should come to the bank to complete the formalities. He took her daughter Summaiya Begum to the Bank of Baroda at Attapur crossroad and made her sign some documents and asked to go home saying they would call her next day. But on the same day, Mohd Zahed called her on phone and asked her to come in the morning hours to take money. When she went to Mee-seva office, Mohd Zahed Ali gave her Rs 20,000 saying that the marriage was conducted at Aurangabad, she will not get the remaining amount. He also informed them that he would give bank pass book and ATM card later, but failed to give the same.
Smelling foul play, Fouziya Begum lodged a complaint with Bahadurpura Police on March 22, 2016 at 1500 hours seeking action against Mohd Zahed Ali for cheating.
The Anti Corruption Bureau was making inquiries into the allegations of frauds occurred in the Shaadi Mubhaarak Scheme in the entire Telangana State. The ACB sleuths raided the Mee-Seva and found some 20 Application forms of Shaadi Mubhaarak Scheme, including Passbooks of the applicants and seized them.
The accused Md Zahed Ali has drawn the sanctioned amount Rs 51,000 from the ATM centre by using the ATM of the beneficiary. The accused was arrested and produced before the Court for Judicial Remand. (NSS)
