Shaadi Mubarak Scheme far behind the target

The ‘Shaadi Mubarak’ scheme which provides one time financial assistance of Rs 51,000/- for the marriage of girls belonging to minority communities lags far behind the target. Community-wise, the government had intended to help 17,515 Muslim girls, 1747 Christian girls, 110 Sikh girls, 135 Buddhist girls, 90 girls belonging to Jain community and 5 girls belonging to Parsi community. But out of the target of 19607 girls from Adilabad, Hyderabad, Kareem Nagar, Khammam, Mahboob Nagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Rangareddy and Warangal district who were intended to help only 4458 names have been registered so far. Out of the target of 17515 only 4458 applications from Muslims were received.

Siasat has set up helpline centre to create awareness among minorities irrespective of religion. NGOs, religious institutions, social bodies should also come forward to create awareness among minorities regarding the scheme.
