Sex ring busted, BPO executive kingpin

New Delhi, January 20: A sex racket operating out of east Delhi has been busted in southeast Delhi. And cops say this is a clear indication that pimps are increasingly trying to rent houses in crowded upper middle class colonies to avoid detection. Six people, including four sex workers, have been arrested

Former call centre employee Gaurav Anand (30), a resident of Geeta Colony, led the gang in association with another pimp – a woman from West Bengal. They took up houses on rent at Madhu Vihar, Preet Vihar, Patparganj, Ganesh Nagar and Vinod Nagar. The call girls were chosen from eastern and northern India.

“We set up a decoy customer, who contacted Anand on his cellphone. He reached Madhu Vihar as directed by Anand where he was introduced to the woman pimp and the four girls belonging to Nepal, Delhi, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand. A deal was stuck for Rs 7,000 when our team rushed in and arrested the accused,” said DCP (crime) Ashok Chand.

During interrogation, Anand revealed that his associate, Sonu Bangalan, was trying to emulate pimp Sonu Punjaban, who is already behind bars.

“Three years ago, Anand came in contact with Bangalan. She helped him set up a network and the duo started operating in 2009. They operated in the trans-Yamuna region as it has a large population and is easy to remain anonymous. In order to escape detection, the gang shifted base every eight months. The fact that they charged not more than Rs 7,000 per client and because they catered to only a select clientele through cellphones, made it very difficult for the law agencies to track them,” said additional DCP Sanjay Bhatia.

Crime branch sources said they are investigating claims that the clients were also treated to western dance performances by the call girls.

All the rented apartments in east Delhi that was used to run the racket are located close to each other with moderate rentals bordering between Rs 8,000 and Rs 15,000, they said.
