Several persons including police personnel were injured when the Rasta Roko agitation by farmers over erratic power supply turned violent on National Highway No 44 near Narsing in Medak district on Monday.
Several farmers blocked the traffic on NH 44 while raising slogans against the State Government. The farmers alleged that despite being in the midst of Khariff season they were not getting power even for a few hours a day. They alleged that supply became quite erratic since one week.
The protest turned violent when the police personnel resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the agitating farmers. In turn, a few farmers pelted stones on the police personnel. The farmers also damaged at least 10 RTC buses and police vehicles. While many farmers were injured in severe lathi-charge, several police personnel including Inspector Gangadhar received severe injuries due to stone pelting.
The protest led to a massive traffic jam on either sides of the NH-44 that connects Hyderabad and Nizamabad route. (INN)
