Bundi: Seven policemen, including the SHO of Hindoli police station, were injured after they were attacked by a gang of criminals in a forest in Basni area here, police said today.
SHO Ajeet Meghwanshi and six other police personnel were injured when they were attacked by a gang of Kalbailiya tribe with sticks, iron rods and axes yesterday afternoon in Basni area where they had gone to nab the gang following a tip off, Bhushan Yadav, SP, Bundi said.
While SHO Meghwanshi’s hand was fractured, the other six sustained minor injuries following which the police team had to flee from the spot, he said.
Meghwanshi informed about the incident to district headquarter following which a special police team was sent to the spot, Yadav said, adding that the special police team arrested Ramraj Meena, the leader of Kalbailiya gang, and five other other members of the gang.
The five other accused have been identified as Rajaram Meena, Durgesh Meena, Ram Sukh Meena, Gaganand and Mangal Maru and they will be produced in the court today, said Iqbal Hussain, ASI at Hindoli police station.
Ramraj Meena, leader of the gang, had been convicted of murder and is operating the Kalbailiya gang which has been carrying out robberies on highways, besides thefts for the past several months, Yadav said.
The six accused have been booked under sections 307, (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 332 and 333 dealing with voluntarily causing grievous hurt to deter public servant from his duty, 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 147 (rioting) of IPC, Yadav said, adding that attempts are being made to nab the other members of the gang.
