Seven more die due to cold wave, toll reaches 13

Allahabad, January 06: Seven persons, including a woman and a two-month-old child, have died in the district in the last two days due to the intense cold wave, taking the season’s toll to 13, officials said today.

A two-month-old child died at Sarai Inayat area while a 55-year-old woman died in Rajrooppur locality here.

Besides, one death each has been reported from Koraon, Khiri and Meja in trans-Yamuna region and Lilapur Khurd and Jamua in trans-Ganga region, they said.

According to weather department here, Tuesday was the coldest day this winter, when the maximum temperature was 12 degree Celsius, eight degrees below normal. Minimum temperature was six degree Celsius, four degrees below normal.

The situation has become worse with chilly winds sweeping across the district for the last two days.

Dense fog has also affected vehicular traffic.

All schools will remain closed due to cold and will reopen on Monday.
