Seven militants and two soldiers killed in Pakistan

Islamabad, April 11: Seven militants and two soldiers were killed in separate incidents of violence in the restive Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and tribal areas of northwest Pakistan.

Security forces were conducting a search operation in Baizai area of Mohmand tribal region yesterday when they were attacked by pro-Taliban fighters, officials said.

A soldier was killed and five more were injured in the attack, they told the media.

In another incident in Baizai area, a soldier was killed and two more were injured when they clashed with militants.

Troops arrested 30 suspects during the search operation in Mohmand Agency.

They also targeted suspected militant positions with mortars and heavy weaponry.

In the third incident, soldiers gunned down seven militants last night in the restive Swat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Officials said a group of militants was trying to enter Swat from Lower Dir district when it was spotted by soldiers patrolling the area.
