Seven killed in road accident in MP

Anooppur, September 28: Seven persons were killed and 47 others injured today when the mini truck in which they were travelling overturned near Gundakona village, about 60 kms from here, police said. The victims, who hailed from Bhejri village, were on their way to Amarkantak to immerse the idol of Goddess Durga, they said.

The mishap occurred when the mini truck, in order to save itself from a speeding truck, lost balance and overturned, police said, adding five persons died on the spot while two others succumbed to their injuries in the nearby Rajendra Gram Hospital. Local MP, Rajesh Nandini Singh, MLA Sudama Singh, District Collector Kavindra Kiyawat and Superintendent of Police R P Singh reached the spot to help the victims.

The injured were admitted to the Rajendra Gram hospital. The Collector has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10,000 each to the kin of those killed in the mishap, while MLA Singh has provided Rs 2,000 each from the MLA fund to them, police said.
