The filing of nominations for six vacant MLC posts was closed on May 21. Seven nominations were submitted for six MLC posts. Opposition parties have alleged that the ruling TRS filed one more than its strength.
From the TRS, five candidates filed papers. They are: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari, Roads & Buildings Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao, Nethi Vidyasagar, B Venkateshwarlu and K. Yadava Reddy. Former MLA Vem Narender Reddy filed his nomination from TDP and Akula Lalitha filed her papers from Congress. Election has become necessary as seven nominations were filed for six vacant posts.
Speaking to the media after filing nomination, Kadiam Srihari said MLAs from other political parties would cast their votes to TRS candidates. He said he would tender his resignation to his MP seat after his election as MLC. “We are fielding fifth candidate as we have enough strength”, he added.
Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy and Power Minister Jagdeesh Reddy were present at the time of filing of nominations. It may be mentioned here that MIM was extending its support to the TRS in MLC elections. (NSS)
