Anantapur, February 14: In a major breakthrough, the police have arrested three inter-state burglar gangs and recovered Rs 25 lakh worth of gold and silver ornaments, motorcycles and cell phones from them.
Addressing a press conference here today, district superintendent of police MK Sinha said they arrested Shankar (25) at Srirampuram, Narayanaswamay (29) at Basavannapuram, Sardar and Sivaji at
Guntakal and Sadiq Vali at Kadiri, and seized 102 tolas of gold, 4 kg of silver, one bike and 72 mobiles from them. The five burglars belonging to three gangs committed burglaries, stole bikes, snatched necklaces and looted mobile phone shops at Tadipatri, Kadiri and other places in the district. Circle inspectors A Srinivasulu, Mehboob Basha and Ramachandra Reddy formed three groups and arrested the thieves. Sinha announced cash rewards to constables and head constables who nabbed the thieves.
Kadapa: One Town police arrested two burglars and seized 9 cellphones, computer and Rs 13,000 from them.
Disclosing this to newsmen here today, One Town circle inspector Shoukat Ali said based on a tip off that the burglars K Devakumar and R Subba Reddy were waiting near the old bus stand to sell the stolen mobiles, police went to the spot and arrested the duo.
During enquiry, both the thieves revealed that they had burgled as many as 27 mobiles, computer and Rs 13,000 from Metro Cell Point in the town.
Out of the 27, they had already sold 18 mobiles and the police recovered the remaining 9 phones.
