Seven arrested for harassing daughters-in-law

Rourkela: Seven persons belonging to two separate families were arrested on Friday for dowry torture of their daughters-in-law.

A Rourkela Steel Plant employee, Lalatendu Patra and his father, mother and younger brother were arrested, the police said.

The arrests were made on the complaint of Lalatendu’s wife, Padmavati of dowry torture.

She alleged that she had been under physical and mental torture since the last four years of her marriage with demands for more dowry.

In a similar case, a woman, Etteesri Mohanty (22) had complained of harrassment for more dowry since her marriage in 2007 against her husband, Manoranjan Mohanty who together with his father and mother were arrested.

All the accused were produced today before a local court which remanded them to judicial custody for two weeks.
