Seven arrested with fake currency notes in Mumbai

Mumbai, April 19: Seven persons hailing from West Bengal have been arrested for allegedly possessing fake currency notes with a face value of Rs 5.10 lakh routed through Bangladesh, an ATS official said today.

Acting on a tip-off, Mohammed Mubarak Hussain (25), Umayum Samizuddin Khan (26), Mohammed Muqtar Ali (22), Mehdoor Sarazuddin Shaikh (23), Badru Hassan Shaikh (19), Mohammed Abbar Ali (23) and Badal Afsar Shaikh (20) were arrested with the fake currency notes when they arrived at Shashtri Nagar in suburban Santacruz yesterday, the official said.

The accused, hailing from West Bengal, gathered at Shashtri Nagar and were planning to purchase goods with the fake currency having a face value of Rs 5.10 lakh, said Inspector Arvind Sawant of the ATS.

“During the interrogation, it was revealed that the notes were brought from Bangladesh via Malda district in West Bengal,” he said.
